His lyrics praise the woman’s patience as he tentatively re-enters the dating scene, highlighting the idea that one cannot discover what’s out there until they take that step forward.
With verses like “You know I don’t break bread with just anybody / You so hard to please, so am I / Kudos for your patience, I can’t fake sh*t / Let’s see if stars align,” Berhana encapsulates the tension between infatuation and caution, culminating in a moment of letting go in the bridge.
Speaking about the track, Berhana shares, “It’s about finding someone I’m really into after taking a bunch of L’s, while at the same time having to remind myself to slow down.”
“Break Bread” is the third release from Berhana’s sophomore album, Amén: የዘላን ህልም, Berhana is actively promoting the album globally with screenings of The Nomad’s Dream, a short film that features music from the upcoming album. This film explores themes of identity, including the complexities of being a first-generation American and the profound connection to ancestral lands.
Amén: የዘላን ህልም serves as the follow-up to Berhana’s debut album, Han, released in 2019. With Canadian producer Pomo in the mix, the album features previously released tracks “G2g” and “Health Food,” taking listeners on an immersive 14-track journey.
