May 14, 2025Toronto’s hip-hop underground is ablaze with the release of “STEVE AUSTIN,” a hard-hitting single from the dynamic duo Raz Fresco and Futurewave, featuring the formidable Daniel Son. This track serves as the third single from their collaborative album Stadium Lo Champions, which pays homage to the iconic Polo Ralph Lauren 1992 Stadium collection—a symbol of hip-hop style and competitive spirit since its adoption by Brooklyn’s Lo Lifes crew in the late 1980s.
A rapper and producer renowned for his intricate lyricism and a member of the Bakersclub collective, Raz Fresco’s music often reflects his Jamaican heritage and philosophical insights, drawing inspiration from classic ’90s New York rap and the teachings of the Five-Percent Nation.
Futurewave, also hailing from Toronto, is a producer celebrated for crafting gritty soundscapes that encapsulate the city’s raw energy. His collaborations with artists like Kool Keith, Rome Streetz, and Mooch have solidified his reputation as a cornerstone of Canadian underground hip-hop.
Daniel Son, a founder of the Brown Bag Money collective and member of The Umbrella. Known for his unpolished, expressive lyricism, Daniel Son has captivated audiences with his distinct flow and authentic storytelling.
“STEVE AUSTIN” exemplifies the trio’s synergy, blending Raz Fresco’s spiritually-inflected verses, Futurewave’s minimalist, jazz-inflected production, and Daniel Son’s raw delivery. The track is a testament to their shared reverence for hip-hop’s golden era, delivering a sound that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly contemporary.
