May 27, 2024Meryem Saci, known for her incredible work with Nomadic Massive, continues to define her unique identity through solo projects.
With her latest single “My Somebody,” the Montreal-based artist of Algerian origin takes us on a mesmerizing journey through Afro-pop and Maghreb pop, co-written with TiMoh and composed by Djam and Zajib Gherici. The release is accompanied by breathtaking visuals directed by Reeadh Hammache, making us all want to travel and experience the beauty she encapsulates in her art.
Having moved to Canada as a refugee at 13, Saci has always embraced her individuality. She refuses to conform to traditional beauty standards, proudly wearing her curly hair natural—a powerful statement against post-colonial expectations in Algeria. Saci’s music bridges her multicultural experiences, blending North American hip hop, soul, and R&B with African rhythms and sounds from her native Algeria.
On “My Somebody,” Saci breaks free from labels and expectations, using music as a therapeutic outlet to express her true self. Her upcoming solo album promises more of this rich fusion, celebrating all facets of her identity.
