Kelly Krow – EMMÈNE MOI
May 21, 2024Johnny Yukon – MADNESS!
May 23, 2024Waahli, a trilingual musician known for his unique Afro-rap Antillean sound, has dropped a new EP that teases a possible ful-length solo album. This project seamlessly blends Creole funk, reggae, and hip-hop, creating a fusion that’s both nostalgic and innovative.
The single “Bom Pase” takes you straight into classic reggae with its one drop rhythm. As the temperature rises with the funk-disco groove of “VIe Ale,” reminiscent of Tabou Combo’s 1978 hit “Superstars,” you’ll be transported back in time. “Diaspo en diapo” celebrates the solidarity of the Haitian diaspora with orchestral flutes and brass, offering a delightful blend of rap and disco. The EP closes with “Vent,” a track that brings Waahli back to his boom-bap roots, co-produced by longtime collaborator Lou Piensa of Nomadic Massive.
Though this EP is a tantalizing taste of Waahli’s musical prowess, it leaves us eagerly awaiting a full album of these genre-blending grooves. Too short, but oh so sweet! 🌟
