November 10, 2023Quebec’s Alaclair Ensemble takes the world by storm with their seventh album. Get ready for the social climate’s take from these rap maestros, sharing their thought-provoking, not always crystal-clear ideas in a festive yet intricate album.
“Artists should use societal elements to create,” Eman shared during an interview with friends KNLO and Vlooper. The album taps into the #MeToo reverberations and the polarizing conspiratorial dialogue, unveiling diverse perspectives on societal issues, some stretched across eight-minute songs.
The track “Tikisson Woke” is a humorous take, per KNLO, on the appropriation of the term ‘woke’ in today’s context, hinting at the mainstream use of a term initially coined by Erykah Badu and Georgia Anne Muldrow on their song “Master Teachers” where Giorgia Anne sang: “What if there was no n****s, only master teachers now? / I stay woke”.
Vlooper adds a fresh perspective to the song, hinting at it being an ode to the ‘wokes,’ steering clear of taking sides on the word’s usage. The tune was recorded in 2018, long before the term took a potentially derogatory turn.
